Somnombulance

Alrighty then! How did I become more creative and finally started doing sketches every morning.  Part 1 of 2

This morning I lit a cozy candle and set my headphone cord on fire.

-So let's start with part 1  why .
We all hate walls of text so I am going to make this as short as possible. LIST TIME!

1. About 2 years ago I had a long talk with a friend about life before the internet.
2. It hit me like a hammer that boredom spawns creativity (and it was a hell of a lot easier to get bored before the internet was a big thing)
3. I was getting increasingly annoyed by the smartphone zombieness.
4. My two safe havens for spawning ideas since the internet so rudely started interrupting me was in the shower and on the toilet. Smartphones totally ruined the toilet part of that.
(My new arch enemy #1 is waterproof phones and tablets which I will avoid as long as possible.)

I decided to do an experiment, but first I had to check how much of an internet stimulation whore I really was. The morning after my long talk I tried to avoid looking at a screen as long as possible. It took me 2 minuts before I decided to check my mail...

This really kind of shocked me and I decided to go trough with my experiment. Here is what I did:

1. I was not allowed to look at my phone except for when I was going to call or answer something.
2. I was only allowed to use the internet between 20:00-22:00.

This is what happened.
The first week was hell, Not in a heroin addict kind of way but it was like my brain decided that if it cant check the internet or look at a screen it's just going to zone out and do nothing.

But then all of a sudden something happened at the breakfast table.
-I started appreciating really simple things, an awesome sense of harmony came over me.
Then it felt like I started watching everyday life from an audience perspective. I found it fun to see how long it took before whoever I was eating lunch with started doing something with his/her phone in the middle of a conversation without even thinking about it.

I guess it was two weeks into this experiment that I was sitting on my balcony with a nice cup of coffee and thought, "Damn it would be nice to do some oil painting. To bad I cant use my computer until 8 a´clock"  I was actually going to paint in a oil painting simulator with my wacom... Once again this smacked med straight in the face. 6 months earlier I had bought shit loads of oil colors, brushes and canvases that where just sitting there in my wardrobe.
I brought all of it out and so it began, in 2 weeks I did around 12 paintings.
